March is Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month

Posted by admin on Fri, Mar 16, 2012

Sadly, colorectal cancer has become so popular that it has earned its own National Awareness Month. Among the cancers that affect both men and women, colorectal cancer is now the SECOND leading cause of cancer-related deaths in the United States. [according to the Center for Disease Control]

colonWe agree that early detection is the best means of increasing the survival rate of colorectal cancers.

Even more importantly, we believe that maintaining proper bowel health is fundamental to preventing this disease.

What is proper bowel health?
The bowel contains billions of bacteria, both friendly and unfriendly. You want to maintain a balance of about 80% friendly to 20% unfriendly bacteria. When your system becomes compromised, the friendly bacteria can fail to contain the unfriendlies, causing an overgrowth of unfriendly bacteria and leading to a toxic environment. Your system can become compromised by many factors, including consumption of processed foods or pesticides, absorptions of unhealthy environmental toxins, illness, medications, or stressful events or lifestyle.

What happens when I have an imbalance in the bowel?
An overgrowth of unfriendly bacteria, and thus a lack of friendly bacteria, can compromise immune system functioning, affect the synthesis and absorption of important vitamins and nutrients, and can lead to a loss of integrity in the lining of the colon wall. When the colon wall loses integrity, toxins are allowed to enter the bloodstream, and the body stores them in your fat cells, organs and tissues.

What are the signs that I may have an imbalance?
Think about what can happen when toxins travel and are stored throughout your system. You may realize chronic pain, general achiness, brain fog, headaches, fatigue, hormonal imbalances and much more. Many of these symptoms can mount and be contributed to other more serious diseases, such as arthritis and autoimmune disorders.

What should I do to get my system back in balance?
The colon is the body's major organ for the elimination of toxic matter. At NIHA, we offer Colon Hydrotherapy as a means of cleansing the colon. Colon Hydrotherapy is the insertion of warm purified water into the colon to stimulate the body's natural peristaltic action to gently flush away impacted fecal matter and toxic waste.

Get a Colonoscopy this Month

If you are concerned about colorectal cancer, the CDC recommends colonoscopy as a means of early detection to prevent deaths from colorectal cancer. In fact, colonoscopy screenings are recommended every five years for everyone beginning at age 50.

Prepare for Your Colonoscopy, or Kick Off Your Cleanse with Colonics

More and more doctors are recommending Colon Hydrotherapy, also called  Colonics, as a preparation for colonoscopy. Colonics  is considered easier and more comfortable than traditional methods involving several types of laxatives (such as Golytely® or Fleets Phospho-Soda®).

To prepare the bowel for your colonoscopy, we recommend two colonics on two consecutive days - ideally one the day before your colonoscopy and one the morning of your colonoscopy. The first will hydrate you, flush out much of the solid fecal matter and stimulate the release of toxins. The second will further cleanse the colon and flush away toxins that were released after the first treatment. Even if you're not preparing for a colonoscopy, the International Association for Colon Hydrotherapy recommends two consecutive colonics to kick off your cleansing regimen.

Cleansing toxic fecal matter from the colon via colon hydrotherapy can help to restore the body to an environment where it can begin to heal itself and return you to optimal health.
