My First Colon Hydrotherapy Session

Posted by NIHA Staff on Sat, May 17, 2014

I started working for NIHA a while ago, and I have always been interested in colon hydrotherapy.   I mean, come on, the benefits touted are immediate weight loss, miraculous flat tummies,  improving your skin, better digestion and clearing out your 20-something-foot intestine!

Who wouldn't want all that?

Colon Hydrotherapy for Detoxification

But NIHA also taught me how incredibly beneficial colonics could be for my health.  Colon hydrotherapy washes away the many toxins that build up over the course of your lifetime and leaves your colon clean and toxic free.  I try to eat a clean diet and limit exposure,  but we still encounter toxins in personal care products, household chemicals, EMF’s, pollution etc. Did you know that every meal you eat should be followed by a trip to the bathroom? And if you are not eliminating as much as you’re consuming, well, where do you think it’s going?

The Procedure

So I booked my appointment and the colon hydrotherapist gave me all the pre-colon hydrotherapy instructions. The colon hydrotherapiests are extremely professional and knowledgeable. No eating for at least 2 hours beforehand to ensure my body is still not digesting anything during the treatment.  Fortunately, she is very experienced and sensitive to the patient’s needs, because really, who normally discusses bodily functions and bowel habits like this with a stranger? I filled out a questionnaire and headed into the colonic room.  The procedure-prep went as follows:

  • The colon hydrotherapist explained the complete process, then left the room

  • I undressed completely, put on a comfortable over-sized t-shirt (which was left for me) and laid down on a comfortable reclining chair/bed

  • I put on gloves, used coconut oil and inserted the speculum myself, which is so small you don’t even realize it’s there (I kid you not!)

  • Then I covered myself with a blanket

  • I rang the bell for the colon hydrotherapist to come back in to turn the water on.

  • She scented the room with lavender oil to relax me

Next, the treatment actually began.  What actually happens during colon hydrotherapy is a slow stream of water runs inside and fills your colon. You hold it in as long as you can then release it. (There is a hole in the chair/bed where the speculum and water come from…and that’s where all the waste goes.  It’s basically your really comfortable toilet seat for the duration of the treatment.) There is also a clear tube, which travels from the hole through the side of the chair/bed and into the wall.   For the few short moments before the tube goes into the wall, you can see everything! This was my favorite part, of course.  And no, “stuff” isn’t constantly pouring out of you, which I expected  (just ask my sister). It’s mostly just water, which you release, and every so often you will see a bit of that junk that’s been hiding in your colon.  You repeat the process for the entire procedure, which was for 45 minutes. Personally, I could not “release” with the colon hydrotherapist  in the room (I told you I could be ladylike!), so she left and let me know that if I needed anything, I should just ring the bell and she would be there in a second.

My Reaction to my First Colonic

The whole colon hydrotherapy process was completely non-invasive and actually very relaxing.  I could not believe how natural it felt. I got a lot of good texting in.

Afterwards, the colon hydrotherapist  welcomed me in the reception area with an electrolyte drink and a probiotic drink- to replace the good bacteria that was cleaned out with all the bad stuff.

When I left, I couldn’t believe how awesome I felt. I don’t think I ever felt lighter or better.  I did not have to run to the bathroom after.  I even went for a run that night and was completely fine; kind of felt like I was floating and I had such good energy.

I am happy to say that my first colon hydrotherapy session was relieving, super private and hugely rewarding. I will be doing this regulary now as part of my detox routine because I liked the way I felt afterward. I recommend you try it out and see if you gain as much energy as I did from a nice, gentle cleanse.
