Healthy Mouth, Healthy Bodybiological dentistry in Wash DC

Believe it or not, when we are taking care of our teeth and mouth we are taking steps to a healthy body.

Daily home care for our teeth and gums is important and not just for the obvious reasons of keeping our teeth for a lifetime and not having bad breath, but a healthy mouth contributes to overall good health.

Natural Dental Products for Healthy Teeth and Gums

There are many products on the market that can aid us in this process.  Some may find the choices overwhelming.  As a dental hygienist, when educating my patients on home care my goal is to help them find something that they are willing to do to improve oral health and then offer encouragement so that they will implement new habits into their daily dental routine.

When it comes to natural dental products and mouth rinses I highly recommend Tooth and Gum Tonic.  Tooth and Gum Tonic is a unique mouthwash and oral rinse that contains herbs and essential oils which have been used for centuries to maintain healthy tissue. The essential oils are able to penetrate around the teeth for a beneficial effect. Patients like the taste, and they are willing to use it on a daily basis and their gums are healthier when they come in for their check-ups. Some find it strong at first, so I have these patients dilute with water until they get used to the taste.

For my patients that use an irrigator, I sometimes recommend Under the Gum Irrigant.  It is a potent solution that can be added to a WaterPik or irrigating device which will allow the solution to be delivered below the gum line.  My patients tell me at their preventive maintenance appointments that their mouths feel healthier and that it is easy to add this into their home care regimen.
