Posted by on Tue, Aug 08, 2023

Colon Hydrotherapy, also known as Colonics, is a gentle therapy utilized to cleanse the large colon. Warm purified water is used to hydrate the system and loosen impacted fecal matter. This process allows toxins and waste to safely leave the body, improving our system’s natural cleansing processes.

Colon hydrotherapy is an incredibly effective and safe therapy that has many proven benefits ranging from improved digestion and increased energy to detoxification and weight loss. NIHA’s I-ACT certified colon hydrotherapists Myrt Burge and Arthur Totten share 7 benefits of this integrative therapy.

8 Steps to Keep Your Colon Healthy

Posted by on Wed, Mar 14, 2018

It is never too late to start caring for one of the most important organs of elimination of your body, the colon.

The colon is one of the five major organs of elimination. Its main function is to rid your body of the leftover waste your body no longer needs.  If your colon isn’t working the way it should, you may experience problems such as constipation, bloating, gas, brain fog, stomachache, and overall lack of wellness. As part of the gastrointestinal system, healthy bacteria in the gut is key to a strong immune system, and to maintain health.

So how do we keep a healthy balance of good bacteria in the gut?

Feeling Heavy After the Holidays? How Colon Hydrotherapy Can Help

Posted by on Wed, Jan 10, 2018

Many of the clients for colon hydrotherapy are surprised to learn that within the human body, there exists a series of organs that when stretched out, measure longer than a car!

Indeed, 30 feet of gastrointestinal (GI) tract runs through every adult. Every time you eat food, it goes through the tract, starting at the esophagus and then moving through the stomach, intestines, and colon, before it exits the body. The tract serves as the processor for all that you eat and drink-both the good AND the bad.

When we partake in some well-deserved overindulgence, toxins from bad food, beverages, and other consumables may accumulate in our digestive system and cause all sorts of discomfort. Digestive issues are common in this day and age and almost everybody is liable to feel them at one point or another. That’s where colon hydrotherapy can help!

Benefits of Colon Hydrotherapy

Posted by on Wed, Mar 22, 2017

March is Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month.

Colorectal issues affect both men and women of all racial and ethnic groups. For men, colorectal cancer is the third most common cancer after prostate and lung cancers. For women, colorectal cancer is the third most common cancer after breast and lung cancers. Unfortunately, statistics now show a rise in colorectal cancer among younger people in their twenties and thirties. Colorectal cancer can be prevented with recommended screenings, and can be treated if detected early.

Colon hydrotherapy is also known as a colonic, or colonic irrigation. It is a safe, effective method of cleansing the colon (large intestine) of waste material.

Colon Cancer Screening Guidelines

Posted by on Tue, Mar 15, 2016

Sadly, colorectal cancer, or cancer of the colon or rectum, is now the third most commonly diagnosed cancer. The month of March is dedicated to National Colorectal Cancer Awareness.

According to the CDC, among cancers that affect both men and women, colorectal cancer is the second leading cause of cancer deaths in the United States. Every year, about 140,000 Americans are diagnosed with colorectal cancer, and more than 50,000 people die from it. (1) Early detection is the best means of increasing the survival rate of colorectal cancers.

What is Colonic Therapy?

Posted by on Tue, Jun 10, 2014

Colonic therapy goes by many names, such as: colon hydrotherapy, colonics, colon cleansing, colon indignation, high enemas, and colon therapy.

Disease begins in the Gut

A toxic bowel is the source of many health problems. Colonics rejuvenate every cell of the body. Colonic sessions hydrate and cleanse the colon, exercise the colon muscles,  and stimulate reflex points. In addition, colonic therapy helps cleanse the blood, release toxins, build up the immune system, and rehydrate the whole body.

Why do people receive colon hydrotherapy?

  • Many receive the treatments as a preventative measure or a lifestyle change.
  • Other groups have symptoms of intestinal distress, constipation, indigestion, diarrhea, hemorrhoids, gas, bloating, IBS, colitis, diverticulitis, parasites, skin conditions, such as, shingles and eczema, inability to lose weight, and scar tissue from surgery.
  • Others receive colonics to relieve their pain from headaches, migraines, lower back and shoulder pain, aching joins, and gout.
  • Colon hydrotherapy sessions are also medically used for stool samples, pre/post surgery, geriatric and barium x-rays.
  • Many people come for colonics while they have been fasting or on a cleansing program, a liver or gallbladder flush, or recovering from an accident.
  • Others might have emotional issues which they feel are related to their backed up intestines.

My First Colon Hydrotherapy Session

Posted by on Sat, May 17, 2014

I started working for NIHA a while ago, and I have always been interested in colon hydrotherapy.   I mean, come on, the benefits touted are immediate weight loss, miraculous flat tummies,  improving your skin, better digestion and clearing out your 20-something-foot intestine!

Who wouldn't want all that?

Colon Hydrotherapy for Detoxification

But NIHA also taught me how incredibly beneficial colonics could be for my health.  Colon hydrotherapy washes away the many toxins that build up over the course of your lifetime and leaves your colon clean and toxic free.  I try to eat a clean diet and limit exposure,  but we still encounter toxins in personal care products, household chemicals, EMF’s, pollution etc. Did you know that every meal you eat should be followed by a trip to the bathroom? And if you are not eliminating as much as you’re consuming, well, where do you think it’s going?

The Procedure

So I booked my appointment and the colon hydrotherapist gave me all the pre-colon hydrotherapy instructions. The colon hydrotherapiests are extremely professional and knowledgeable. No eating for at least 2 hours beforehand to ensure my body is still not digesting anything during the treatment.  Fortunately, she is very experienced and sensitive to the patient’s needs, because really, who normally discusses bodily functions and bowel habits like this with a stranger? I filled out a questionnaire and headed into the colonic room.  The procedure-prep went as follows:

Why I Love Being a Colon Hydrotherapist

Posted by on Tue, Nov 19, 2013

First, All Colon Hydrotherapy Jokes Aside...

Patients ask me all the time, “Sharon, why do you do THIS?  How did you get into THIS? ”

I always know THIS means COLON HYDROTHERAPY.  Patients wonder why I’m so excited and intrigued by, as one patient says, “watching people poop all day.”  One patient lovingly calls me the “Poop Lady.”   When people ask my 40 year-old daughter what I do for a living her response is, “my Mom helps people get the mess out of their lives.”  Yes, she’s a comedienne; the woman definitely has jokes.    Needless to say, my chosen career is the butt of many jokes (pun intended)!

Part II : Some Symptoms of Constipation

In my article last week, The Truth About Constipation, you discovered a new definition for constipation.

In summary, you discovered if you’re not experiencing a one to one ratio between the meals you’re taking in and the waste that’s coming out, you’re probably constipated.

The Truth About Constipation

Posted by on Sat, Aug 31, 2013

According to the National Digestive Diseases Information Clearinghouse, "Constipation is defined as having a bowel movement less than THREE times a week."

Well, I'd like to modify that definition because it doesn't begin to scratch the surface of what it means to be constipated.
